Escadote roubado encontrado na casa de um contrabandista português dos anos 60

Escadote roubado encontrado na casa de um contrabandista dos anos 60/Stolen stepladder found in a Portuguese smuggler’s home from the 60’s

The proposal of exhibiting the Stolen ladder found in a Portuguese smuggler’s home from the 60’s in MUSEU is inspired by Francisco Tropa’s exhibition Submerged Treasures of Ancient Egypt, as well as by Theodor Adorno’s essay Valéry-Proust Museum.

The work represents the addition of a temporal trajectory, rather than archaeological, which adds layers of fictitious yet simultaneously genuine information to it, while conveying a powerful message, allowing the creation of multiple plots inspired by the object.

Given the ambiguities of its function, what would a smuggler have used it for while carrying out his trade? And what hidden stories does it contain in its apparent insignificance ?

We suggest you play the following game: imagine what it was used for, the stories it could tell, and share with us some others you may know which involve smugglers, past and present, and their trade.
